Obverse description The obverse displays the crowned quartered arms of Anhalt-Bernburg, the shield surmounted by a princely crown and flanked by elaborate baroque mantling. The multipart coat of arms incorporates the heraldic charges of the various Anhalt territories, including eagles, bars, and floral devices. The peripheral legend reads VICTOR FRID D G PR ANH DVX S A E W C A D B & S, identifying the ruler as Victor Frederick, by the Grace of God Prince of Anhalt, Duke of Saxony, Engern, and Westphalia, Count of Aschersleben, etc. The date 1746 and the mintmaster's initials HCRF appear in the lower portion of the field. The overall design is characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century German princely coinage with finely engraved heraldic detail.
