| Obverse description | Bust of Saint Stephen, patron saint of Passau, facing three-quarters to the right within an inner beaded circle, depicted in ecclesiastical vestments with a nimbus; below the bust appears the quartered episcopal arms of Passau surmounted by three orbs, with the date 15-70 divided to either side of the shield. The encircling Latin legend reads VRBANVS D G EPISCOPVS PATAVIENSIS, identifying Urban of Trennbach as bishop by the grace of God. Urban of Trennbach held the see of Passau from 1561 to 1598, navigating the diocese through some of the most turbulent decades of the Reformation's penetration into Bavaria and Upper Austria. Passau's bishops exercised both ecclesiastical and secular authority as princes of the Holy Roman Empire, giving them the legal right to strike gold — a privilege not all imperial bishops exercised as consistently as Passau did.
Fr#2065 places this squarely within the Frühwald gold classification for Passau episcopal issues, a series notable for its relatively small surviving populations given the diocese's modest economic output compared to wealthier sees like Salzburg or Cologne.
