Obverse description A standing wild man (woodwose) depicted in full figure at center, bare-chested and wreathed about the waist with foliage, holding a large knotted club upright in his right hand and resting his left hand upon an oval heraldic shield bearing three lions passant, the Danish royal arms. The mintmaster's initial B appears below the wild man's feet. The date is split to either side of the figure, with 17 to the left and the final two digits to the right. The circular legend MONETA · AUREA · DANICA · runs along the periphery, rendered in bold Latin capitals characteristic of late 18th-century Danish minting.
