Christian VII was nominally king during 1771, but the Danish court was effectively controlled by Johann Friedrich Struensee, the royal physician who had become the queen's lover and the kingdom's de facto ruler. Struensee issued over 1,800 cabinet orders in roughly 16 months before his arrest and execution in 1772. Trade ducats of this year were struck under that regime — a government that technically didn't exist by constitutional norms.
The .979 fineness places this above the standard .986 ducat purity in name only — a deliberate Danish specification held consistently across the Species trade coinage to facilitate commerce with Hamburg and the Baltic markets.
