A flowing ribbon banner arches across the upper field bearing the inscription V.D.M.I.Æ. (Verbum Domini Manet In Æternum — 'The Word of the Lord Endures Forever'), the motto of the Lutheran Reformation. Flanking the central device, the legend DEN XV. / OCTOB. records the date of 15 October, commemorating the centenary of the Reformation Jubilee observance in Regensburg. The design is rendered in a bold, slightly provincial baroque style with a milled outer border. |
