Louis Bonaparte was installed as King of Holland by his brother Napoleon in June 1806, a appointment Louis neither requested nor particularly wanted. He proved an awkward vassal — genuinely attempting to govern in Dutch interests rather than French ones, which eventually led Napoleon to annex the Netherlands outright in 1810.
