Additional information

Philip Ernest ruled Schaumburg-Lippe from 1777 until his death in 1787, governing a county so small — roughly 130 square kilometers — that its independent gold coinage was more a political statement of sovereignty than a product of genuine monetary need. The county's ducat production across this period was minimal, and surviving examples in any condition are genuinely scarce.

The .986 fine standard matches the conventional ducat fineness maintained across the German states, ensuring the coin would circulate at face value throughout the Holy Roman Empire regardless of its tiny origin.
