Petr Vok of Rosenberg, the last of his line, minted this ducat during a period when the Bohemian nobility still exercised quasi-sovereign monetary privileges increasingly resented by the Habsburg court. Petr Vok was chronically indebted — he would eventually be forced to sell Český Krumlov, the Rosenberg seat, to Emperor Rudolf II in 1601 — and coin issues of this period likely served as much as instruments of prestige and credit as they did circulating currency.
With Petr Vok's death in 1611, the Rosenberg line extinguished entirely, making every issue bearing his name a terminal product of a dynasty.
