Reverse description St. Rupert (Sanctus Rudbertus), the patron saint and first bishop of Salzburg, enthroned facing forward, vested in episcopal robes, holding a crozier in his right hand and a salt cellar (salzfass) in his left — the latter being a traditional iconographic attribute referencing the salt trade foundational to Salzburg's wealth. The surrounding Latin legend, commencing at approximately the 1 o'clock position, reads SANCTVS RVDBERTVS EPS SALISB followed by the date of issue.
