The circular legend SVB·VMBRA·ALARVM·TVARVM — 'Under the shadow of Thy wings' — runs around the periphery in Latin capitals, a devotional motto referencing Psalm 17. The design is typical of northern Italian baroque hammered gold coinage of the seventeenth century. |
