| Reverse description | A crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed in the center of the field, with wings spread and both heads facing outward, each surmounted by a small crown beneath a single larger imperial crown above. An escutcheon on the eagle's breast bears the arms of the Ferrero-Fieschi family, consisting of diagonal barry lines. The circular legend SVB·VMBRA·ALARVM·TVARVM — 'Under the shadow of Thy wings' — runs around the periphery in Latin capitals, a devotional motto referencing Psalm 17. The design is typical of northern Italian baroque hammered gold coinage of the seventeenth century. |
