| Obverse description | Unadorned bare head of King Maximilian II of Bavaria facing right, rendered in fine relief with naturalistically detailed hair. The effigy is centered within a beaded border, with the engraver's initials 'J.R.' appearing in small characters beneath the truncation. The circular legend reads 'MAXIMILIAN II KOENIG V.
