Obverse description Central design features a bold cross pattée surmounted by a princely crown at the top, with the intertwined cipher 'L' (for Landgraf Ludwig VIII) incorporated into the crosspiece. Four decorative elements, likely floral or foliate ornaments, appear in the four quarters between the arms of the cross. The circular Latin legend reads 'DURCH DIE DUCATEN' distributed around the periphery, interrupted by small cross stops. The overall composition is rendered in high relief with crisp, milled execution characteristic of mid-18th century German court coinage.
