| Obverse description | A rampant lion facing right dominates the field, holding an upraised sword in its forepaw and standing beside a crowned oval shield bearing the Hessian lion arms. The Latin legend PRO PATRIA arcs across the upper field, while the date in Roman numerals MDCCXLII is inscribed along the lower exergue line. The design is rendered in high relief typical of German baroque coinage, with fine detail on the lion's mane and the crowned cartouche. The coin is struck within a milled border. |
