Additional information

Louis Rudolph ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel for less than three years before his death in 1735, making his coinage series among the shortest of any duke in the territory's long succession. His reign was largely overshadowed by dynastic maneuvering within the wider Welf family, and gold ducats attributable to him are correspondingly scarce in commerce. The .986 fineness is characteristic of the Holy Roman Empire's ducat standard codified over the preceding two centuries, maintained with sufficient consistency that ducats from different German states traded at near-parity across borders.
