The figure alludes to the Danube gold used in the striking of this ducat series. The upper legend EX AURO DANUBII, meaning 'from the gold of the Danube,' arcs along the upper periphery, while the Roman numeral date MDCCCXXX appears in the exergue. The composition is executed in a vigorous Neoclassical style characteristic of early nineteenth-century Bavarian medallic art. |
