| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of King Ludwig I of Bavaria in right profile, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair and a truncated draped shoulder. The effigy is centrally positioned within the field and is the work of engraver Joseph Losch. The circular legend LUDOVICUS I BAVARIAE REX runs along the upper periphery in incuse Roman capital letters. The overall style reflects the restrained Neoclassical aesthetic favored by the Bavarian court in the early nineteenth century. |

| Reverse description | A reclining river god personifying the Danube (Danubius) occupies the central field, depicted as a semi-nude male figure leaning on an overturned urn from which water flows, with marsh reeds rising to his left and the crowned Bavarian shield resting at his side. The figure alludes to the Danube gold used in the striking of this ducat series. The upper legend EX AURO DANUBII, meaning 'from the gold of the Danube,' arcs along the upper periphery, while the Roman numeral date MDCCCXXX appears in the exergue. The composition is executed in a vigorous Neoclassical style characteristic of early nineteenth-century Bavarian medallic art. |
