| Obverse description | The obverse displays the ornate quartered coat of arms of Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Archbishop-Elector of Mainz, surmounted by an electoral hat with tassels and flanked by elaborate mantling. The shield is quartered with the arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz and the personal arms of the Schönborn family, including wheels, diagonal bands, and other heraldic charges. The date 1696 appears in the lower field beneath the shield. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, reading LOTHAR. FRANC. D. G. ARCHIEP. MOG. S. R. I. P. G. A. C. & E., identifying the archbishop by name and title. The design is rendered in high relief with fine baroque detail characteristic of late 17th-century German ecclesiastical coinage. |
