| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Cologne — three crowned lions passant in chief over a base strewn with drops (ermine points) — enclosed within a cartouche flanked by three smaller escutcheons representing subsidiary arms of the city. The date 1659 appears prominently above the central shield in the upper field. The peripheral legend, reading CASPAR MELCH BALTHA (a reference to the Three Magi, patron saints of Cologne), runs along the outer border within a beaded circle, with small ornamental devices separating the words. |

| Reverse description | Half-length armoured effigy of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I facing right, crowned and wearing elaborate plate armour with a mantle, his right hand holding a long sceptre topped with a fleur-de-lis and his left hand bearing the imperial orb surmounted by a cross. The figure is rendered in the baroque portrait style characteristic of mid-17th-century Imperial coinage. The surrounding legend LEOPOLDVS · D : G · ROM · IM · SE · AVG · (Leopoldus Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperator Semper Augustus) runs within a beaded border encircling the entire design. |
