Obverse description A fully armored knight stands facing right, his figure bisected vertically by the date, with a raised sword in his right hand and a bundle of seven arrows — symbolizing the Union of Utrecht — held upright in his left. The knight wears a flowing scarf and rests upon a decorative ground line. The peripheral Latin legend, interrupted by the Utrecht mintmark, runs around the full circumference of the flan, with the date divided at either side of the knight's figure.
