正面描述 Draped bust of Duke John William II (Johann Wilhelm II) facing right, with long flowing curled wig rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner. The portrait is uncrowned and depicts the ruler with naturalistic detail characteristic of late 17th- to early 18th-century German court engraving. The circular Latin legend surrounding the effigy reads D . G • I . W . C • P . S • R . I • ARCHID . ET EL •, abbreviating his full ducal and imperial titles. The field is smooth and the coin exhibits a milled border of fine teeth.

附加信息

John William II — Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz — ruled Jülich-Berg as a Catholic duke in a confessionally fractured Rhineland, and his ducats were struck at Düsseldorf during the War of the Spanish Succession, when trade routes and allegiances across the Holy Roman Empire were in active disruption. He was also Elector Palatine, and his court at Düsseldorf became one of the more ambitious artistic centers in the German lands, funded in part by revenues the coinage itself represents.

He died in 1716 without legitimate issue, triggering the Jülich-Berg succession dispute that would smolder for decades.
