Additional information

The Counts of Paar held one of the most unusual privileges in the Habsburg system: a hereditary monopoly on the imperial postal service. This concession, granted in the sixteenth century and confirmed repeatedly by successive emperors, generated enormous revenue and underpinned the family's quasi-sovereign minting rights. Johann Wenzel von Paar served as Postmaster General under Maria Theresa, and this ducat dates to the final years of her reign.

Fr#465a distinguishes this from the related 465 variety — a distinction that matters in a series where total surviving examples across all varieties can be counted without great difficulty.
