1 Ducat - Johan Wilhelm

The County of Sinzendorf was among the smallest of the Holy Roman Empire's quasi-sovereign entities, and its coinage rights were exercised rarely enough that individual issues are poorly documented even in specialist literature. Johan Wilhelm, Count Sinzendorf, struck this ducat in 1753 under the imperial minting privileges theoretically available to counts of his rank, though exercise of that right by such minor lordships was increasingly anachronistic by the mid-eighteenth century.

The Sinzendorf family is better remembered for ecclesiastical and diplomatic careers than for coin production. This piece's listing under a single catalog number — C#1 — strongly implies it is the only ducat type the county ever issued.
