Obverse description Central quartered shield of arms bearing the heraldic devices of the Bronckhorst-Batenburg and Gronsveld families, surmounted by an ornate crown with visible pearls and scrollwork supporters flanking the shield. The date numerals appear divided on either side of the crown. A beaded inner circle separates the shield from the outer legend, which reads MO • NO • AV • IVST • MAX • C • A • BR • IN • GR, abbreviating the Latin title of Jobst Maximilian as Count at Bronckhorst in Gronsveld. The entire design is executed in the bold relief characteristic of mid-seventeenth century hammered gold coinage of the Low Countries.
