He holds a crozier in his left hand and a salt container (salzfass) in his right, both principal attributes of this saint. A radiant halo surrounds his head, and the date 1745 appears within the legend encircling the design. The inscription names the saint in his role as Bishop of Salzburg, consistent with the formal ecclesiastical iconographic tradition of Salzburg ducats. |

Jakob Ernst von Liechtenstein served as Archbishop of Salzburg from 1745 until his death in 1747 — one of the shortest episcopates in the see's history. His ducats were struck almost immediately upon his appointment, making coins from his tenure scarce by simple arithmetic: barely two years of production against a mint that had been issuing gold continuously for centuries.
Zöttl 2809 is the sole ducat type attributed to his reign.
