The tablet inscription abbreviates 'Moneta Ordinum Provinciarum Foederatarum Belgii ad Legem Imperii' (Money of the States of the Federated Belgian Provinces according to Imperial Law), conforming to the standard Dutch ducat type. The overall composition is symmetrical and formal, characteristic of Dutch Republic gold coinage of the late 17th century. |
