Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Count Hermann von Hatzfeld in right profile, wearing plate armor with decorative shoulder pauldrons and a lace cravat, the hair rendered in loose curls. The effigy occupies the majority of the coin's field and is executed in high relief with fine engraved detail on the cuirass. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust, separated from the milled border by a beaded inner rim, reading: FERD: III. DG: R: I:S:A: HERMAN. HATZFELDT. CO: GLEICH: D: CROTTORF.

Reverse description The Virgin Mary, crowned and robed, seated in three-quarter view upon clouds with the Christ Child upon her lap, the whole surrounded by a radiant glory of rays emanating from the central group. Below the Madonna, a small escutcheon bearing the arms of the Hatzfeld family is placed in the lower field. The circumferential Latin legend, invoking Our Lady as protectress of the afflicted Hatzfeld family and its mines, reads: PROTECTRIX. NE. DESERAS: AFF: FAM: HATZFELDTICA. AVGE. FODINAS.
