Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a crowned, double-tailed lion rampant to the left occupies the central field, depicted with open jaws in a roaring pose, the two tails curling prominently upward. The lion is rendered in the bold, somewhat angular style characteristic of late 16th-century Dutch hammered gold coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner beaded border, reading the titles and abbreviated name of the issuing lord, Herman Diederik of Bronckhorst. The irregular flan, typical of hammered production, results in portions of the legend being partially visible at the coin's periphery.
