| Obverse description | Draped bust of George Louis (later George I of Great Britain) facing right, with long flowing curled hair falling to the shoulder, rendered in high relief. A plain truncation cuts the bust at the chest. The surrounding legend reads GEORG LVD D G D BR & LVN S R I A TH & EL, identifying him as Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg, Arch-Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire. The legend is separated from the milled border by a narrow flat rim. The portrait displays a vigorous baroque style typical of early eighteenth-century German coinage. |

| Reverse description | Crowned quartered shield of arms of the Electorate of Hanover displayed in the centre of the field, bearing the arms of Brunswick, Lüneburg, Westphalia, and the crown of Charlemagne, flanked below by the mintmaster's initials H C B. The royal crown above the shield is ornate and topped with a cross. The motto legend IN RECTO DECUS (meaning 'Honour in Righteousness') arcs around the upper field, with the date 1714 appearing vertically to the right of the shield. The milled edge border frames the design on all sides. |
