Fredrik V struck this ducat in 1758 under the "Eben-Ezer" ("Stone of Help") religious motto program, a series of devotional gold issues that circulated in very limited numbers and were likely intended as presentation pieces or new-year gifts rather than everyday currency. The practice of issuing such motto ducats was a distinctly Danish-Norwegian court tradition with roots in the piety conventions of the seventeenth century.
Fr#261 is among the scarcer Frederiksberg ducat types, and genuine examples are frequently confused with later restrike material.
