| Reverse description | A seated allegorical female figure, personifying the Bishopric of Bamberg, is shown in three-quarter pose to the right, resting beside a stepped pyramid or obelisk that bears the inscription ELECT BAM / BERG / D IZA / 1779 arranged across its face. The figure holds a palm frond in her left hand and leans toward a large shield or roundel on her right, decorated in relief with the arms of Bamberg featuring the imperial knight motif. A trumpet-blowing Fame or Glory figure hovers at the apex of the pyramid, and leafy branches or laurel sprigs adorn the sides of the monument. The composition is executed in the refined late Baroque engraving style characteristic of the Bamberg mint under Goetzinger. |

Frederick Louis of Erthal was appointed Prince-Bishop of Bamberg in 1779, the same year this ducat was struck — making it an issue of his accession year. He would go on to govern both Bamberg and Würzburg simultaneously from 1779 until secularization effectively ended the temporal authority of both sees. The Bishopric of Bamberg itself was dissolved in 1802 under Napoleonic reorganization of German ecclesiastical territories, making the entire output of Erthal's mint a closed and finite series.
The .986 fineness matches the standard Rhenish ducat specification that ecclesiastical mints across the Holy Roman Empire were expected to observe.
