| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke Frederick III of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg facing right, wearing an elaborately ornamented mantle with a beaded collar, his hair dressed in long flowing curls in the Baroque fashion. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the drapery folds and lace trim. The circular Latin legend reads FRIDER III GOTHAN SAXONVM DVX around the periphery, separated by a stop. The coin field is smooth, with the bust occupying the full central area. |
