Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Frederick II (the Great) facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved curled hair tied with a ribbon at the nape. The portrait is youthful and unidealized, reflecting the king's accession year likeness. The encircling Latin legend FRIDERICVS BORVSSORVM REX (Frederick, King of the Prussians) runs along the inner border from lower left to lower right. A milled border frames the entire obverse.
