This ducat belongs to the joint coinage of Ferdinand and Isabella issued from Valencia following the fall of Granada in January 1492 — the same year Columbus made landfall in the Caribbean and the Alhambra Decree expelled the Jewish population from Castile and Aragon. The Valencia mint operated under strict royal ordinances governing fineness, and the .990 gold standard here reflects Aragonese minting tradition rather than the slightly lower standards tolerated in some Castilian issues.
