The saint holds a model of a church or salt container in his left hand and raises his right hand in blessing, standing above a small heraldic shield at the base. The design is executed in the flat, stylized manner characteristic of hammered ecclesiastical gold coinage of the mid-16th century. A beaded inner border frames the central type. The surrounding legend reads S RVDBERTVS EPVS, identifying the figure as Saint Rupert, Bishop. |
