| Reverse description | A bold cruciform arrangement of four interlocked crowned monograms, each formed by the intertwined initials EL (Ernst Ludwig), oriented toward the four cardinal points of the design. At the center of the cross, a small square shield bearing the rampant lion of Hesse is flanked by the divided date. The four crowns surmounting the monograms are rendered in fine detail, and decorative foliate or trophy elements fill the angles between the arms of the cross. The overall composition is characteristic of German baroque ducat coinage and conveys dynastic pride through the repeated cipher motif. |
