背面描述 Five-line Latin inscription struck within an ornate square tablet, the tablet itself framed by elaborate foliate and scroll decoration filling the surrounding field. The bold, serifed lettering reads MO · ORDI / PROVIN / FOEDER / BELG · AD / LEG · IMP, affirming the coin's status as lawful coinage of the federated provinces. The decorative cartouche, with its baroque flourishes at the corners and along the borders, is a hallmark of the Dutch provincial ducat type. The flan shows the characteristic irregular outline of a hammered planchet.

附加信息

Utrecht began striking its own ducat coinage in competition with the more prolific Holland and Zeeland mints, all of them technically violating the 1586 Union of Utrecht's provisions for monetary standardization — a tension that persisted for the entire life of the Dutch Republic. The plain circle reverse variety (KM#7.2) distinguishes this issue from the beaded-border type struck concurrently, a die distinction that matters considerably for collectors working through the Delmonte sequence.

The 1648 start date aligns with the Peace of Westphalia, after which Dutch trade gold flooded international markets. Many Utrecht ducats of this period ended up in the Baltic trade rather than domestic circulation.
