Obverse description The central device features the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia — a red-and-white chequered shield surmounted by a crown of five historical shields — set against a background of laurel branches. A traditional Croatian interlaced plait ornament (pletera) in relief runs horizontally across the lower field, connecting the laurel sprays. The surrounding legend reads REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA in the upper arc and the denomination JEDAN DUKAT in the lower arc.

Reverse description The central field depicts a panoramic view of the Knin Fortress atop a rocky outcrop, with a Croatian flag flying from the ramparts and the symbolic crown of King Zvonimir shown in relief to the upper right of the fortress. The surrounding legend in the border reads HRVATSKI KRALJEVSKI GRAD KNIN in the upper arc and 5. KOLOVOZA 1995. in the lower arc, commemorating the liberation of the city on 5 August 1995.
