Clemens Wenzeslaus of Saxony was elected Prince-Bishop of Freising in 1763 at just twenty-three years old, a appointment driven more by dynastic politics — he was a son of Augustus III of Poland — than by ecclesiastical merit. He would later become Archbishop-Elector of Trier, making his Freising tenure a brief stepping stone. This ducat dates to only his second year in the see.
Freising's gold output was never prolific. The Sellier reference documents only a handful of ducat types for the entire eighteenth-century episcopate.
