Obverse description Youthful draped bust of Margrave Christian Ernest facing slightly to the right, with long flowing hair falling to the shoulders, wearing a lace cravat and armoured cuirass. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Baroque portrait style typical of mid-17th-century German coinage. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust, beginning at upper right and reading clockwise around the toothed border: CHRISTI . ERNEST . D . G • MAR • BRA • MAGD . PRVS • ST • POM . CAS . VAN ., abbreviating his full titles as Margrave of Brandenburg, Magdeburg, Prussia, Stettin, Pomerania, Kassuben, and Vandalia.
