Charles XI's consolidation of Swedish Pomerania in the early 1680s followed his decisive victory at the Battle of Lund in 1676 and the subsequent Treaty of Fontainebleau in 1679, which returned the territory to Sweden despite Brandenburg's military gains. The Stralsund mint produced ducats for the province as part of a broader reassertion of Swedish administrative control — coinage being among the more visible instruments of that reassertion.
