| Aanvullende informatie |
Charles Theodore's reign over Bavaria was deeply unpopular — he had ceded much of his territory to Austria in a failed 1778 scheme and spent most of his rule in Munich as an absentee ruler more interested in his Palatinate holdings. By 1798 he was 74, effectively isolated, and died the following January. This late ducat is among his final issues.
The "Isargold" designation refers to alluvial gold recovered from the Isar River, a Bavarian tradition dating back centuries. Ducats struck from locally sourced river gold carried documentary significance beyond bullion — they functioned as proof of regional resource extraction. The KM#574 variety distinction most likely reflects a die difference in the mint mark or regnal titulature.
