Additional information

Neisse (now Nysa, Poland) served as the secondary residence of the Prince-Bishops of Breslau, and shooting festivals held there were civic and ecclesiastical events of genuine political weight — not mere entertainment. This ducat was struck as a prize or presentation piece for the 1612 Schützenfest, a tradition in which the church actively sponsored marksmanship competitions to maintain relationships with the municipal elite.

The Bishopric of Breslau operated its own mint at Neisse with episodic intensity, producing festival and donative gold almost exclusively for ceremonial distribution rather than commerce. Friedberg 489 pieces of this type appear rarely at auction.
