| Aanvullende informatie |
Charles Philip, Elector Palatine, struck Rhine gold ducats as a demonstration of electoral privilege — the right to collect and coin alluvial gold from the Rhine was jealously guarded by the Rhenish electors and formed a distinct category of coinage separate from ordinary mint output. By 1742, Charles Philip was in the final months of his life, dying that December at age 81 after a reign of nearly three decades marked by aggressive Counter-Reformation policy and persistent dynastic tension with the Prussian-aligned Protestant estates.
The Rheingolddukat series is notable for the exceptionally high fineness of the alluvial source metal, which required minimal refinement before striking.
