| Additional information |
Stolberg-Stolberg issued this ducat in 1796 under Count Charles Louis at a moment when the Holy Roman Empire was fracturing under French revolutionary pressure — within a decade the county would be mediatized entirely, absorbed into Prussian territory and stripped of its sovereignty under the Confederation of the Rhine reorganization of 1806. Coins like this one were among the last independent issues the house would ever strike.
