Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of Archduke Charles II of Austria, shown standing in armored attire with hands clasped before him, wearing an imperial crown. A six-pointed star appears in the lower field beneath the figure. The legend CAROLVS • D : - ✻ - C • ARCHIDV - X. runs along the inner border, with the inscription divided across the upper field on either side of the figure. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border.

Reverse description Crowned shield bearing the quartered arms of Austria and Styria, with the Habsburg lion prominently displayed on the escutcheon. The crown surmounting the shield is of imperial form. The surrounding legend AVSTRI • DVX • BVR • STYR : Z • 84 runs along the inner border, with the date 84 (for 1584) incorporated into the legend at the lower right. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border consistent with the hammered ducat tradition.
