Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Duke Charles II August, his hair dressed in the late Baroque fashion with a queue tied by a ribbon at the nape, rendered in high relief against a flat field. The portrait is of fine workmanship, with naturalistic facial features and lace cravat visible at the truncation. The mintmaster's initial W appears below the bust truncation. The circumferential legend in Roman capitals reads CAROLVS II D.G. C. PAL. RH. D. BAV. C & M., identifying the ruler by title as Count Palatine of the Rhine and Duke of Bavaria.
