附加信息

Charles Eugene ruled Württemberg for over half a century — one of the longest reigns of any German prince — and spent lavishly throughout, famously founding the Hohe Karlsschule in Stuttgart, the military academy where Schiller studied before fleeing the duchy in 1782. By 1791 the duke was in his final year of life, his treasury strained by decades of court excess and building projects that rivaled Versailles in ambition if not scale. Ducats from this late period of his reign were struck in small quantities, reflecting both reduced fiscal activity and an administration winding down.
