Obverse description The obverse displays the elaborately quartered coat of arms of Bavaria, surmounted by an electoral bonnet, and supported on either side by two rampant lions as heraldic supporters. The central shield bears the distinctive Bavarian lozengy arms. The date 1739 appears within the field flanking the crown, divided to either side. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design reads CAR. ALB. D. G. V. B. & P. S. D. C. P. R. S. R. I. A. & E. L. L., abbreviating the full titles of Elector Charles Albert, and runs continuously around the milled border.
