Reverse description Square klippe flan oriented on point, the central field occupied by a four-line Latin inscription reading POST / TENEBRAS / LVX / 1517, the celebrated Reformation motto meaning 'After darkness, light,' with the date 1517 commemorating the centenary year of Luther's Ninety-Five Theses. A decorative arabesque or foliate finial ornament appears above the uppermost line of text. The inscription is enclosed within an inner diamond-shaped border of finely engraved interlaced laurel and strapwork, with small floral embellishments at the corners, all executed in the high-relief hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German commemorative klippe.
